The Mercado Atarazanas is located in the historic center of Malaga. It is housed in a magnificent 19th century building filled with Mediterranean sounds, the most delicious smells and Spanish conviviality. The Mercado was designed by Joaquín de Rucoba and built in Neo-Moorish style between 1876 and 1879.I n its three halls you will find plenty of meat, fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, spices, cheese and nuts. It is a truly unmissable hotspot of Málaga! Atarazanas is Moorish for shipyard, and the Mercado Central has this name because it used to be a place where ships were repaired.
Parking is available nearby in the Muello Uno parking garage (near the port). You then take a wonderful walk to the Mercado through Passeo del Parque, an 800-meter-long city park brimming with tropical trees, plants and birds.
TIP: Do go on time, as the market is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
